Our First Performance Since the Pandemic!
I am still buzzing from yesterday! We were part of an amazing event organised by Jive Swing and Watford Council, The Big Dance. If you weren’t there, you missed a treat! The event was brilliantly organised by Joseph Sewell, Charlotte Middlemiss and stage managed by Helen Foale. They were an incredible team and did a fantastic job.
It was held at Woodside Leisure in Watford, in the field. There was a fantastic stage, lighting and sound system, and everyone sat, socially distanced with their fold away chairs and picnic blankets on the field in front to watch.
The event felt extremely Covid safe, due to the extent the organisers had gone to in their risk assessments, and thorough organisation. The hand rail leading up to the stage was frantically sanitised after every group! They really did everything they could to ensure our dancers safety. I was very impressed!
Were we Nervous?
To say our dancers were nervous, is an understatement. This was going to be their first performance for almost 2 years!
Covid has taken so much from everyone and as a performer not being able to do what we love has been tough.
Yesterday was an absolute joy and gave so many local dancers the opportunity to come together in such a community-spirited way. Everyone was fully supportive of each other, different dance groups congratulating each other in such a kind way as they left the stage. It really was an event to proud of.
Despite our last minute re-blocking, due to some dancers having to isolate and sadly miss the event, our Rise dancers put on an incredible show. I am so proud of each and every one of them!
ELEV8 Hip Hop Crew
For our hip hop crew ELEV8, this was the first time they have ever performed as a crew, and they really did us proud.
They were so motivated, led by our fabulous student, Robyn Whytock, who took them off to rehearse whilst they were waiting for their slot. They all came looking immaculate, and professional and brought a ton of ‘attitude’ to the stage. Thank-you to the amazing Daniel Gee, our hip hop teacher, for his fabulous choreography and hard work ensuring they were well rehearsed and confident.
Intermediate Modern
Our Intermediate Modern group were sassy and fierce, giving their all in ‘All that Jazz’. With half our class missing, these girls commanded the stage and made it look like there was only ever meant to be four of them!
Grade 6 Ballet
My Grade 6 Ballet girls danced their hearts out in ‘No Time to Die’ and looked absolutely beautiful in their costumes. They danced with grace and poise and really brought the number to life. I couldn’t be prouder!
The Big Dance Watford has certainly reminded me of my love for dance and why I do what I do. Seeing our dancers smiling faces when they came off that stage was priceless. Here’s to many more performances! Congratulations guys on being simply ‘AWESOME’!!!!
